Class Structure: Your First Night
Your first Bachata class at Dennis PaSamba Dance Company is structured to help you learn and feel comfortable.
We start with basic steps, focusing on rhythm and timing before adding partners.
The first 10-15 minutes are dedicated to solo practice, allowing you to get familiar with the footwork and music.
This helps build confidence before you start dancing with others.
After the warm-up, we introduce basic partner work.
We teach fundamental leading and following techniques specific to Bachata.
Our instructors demonstrate each movement clearly and provide individual feedback as needed.
You will learn the core steps and a simple turn or two, enough to start dancing socially.
The class is designed for adult beginners.
You will rotate partners frequently throughout the class.
This rotation is a key part of our teaching method.
It helps you learn to lead or follow different people, which improves your adaptability and skill.
It also ensures everyone gets to dance and interact.
Don't worry about memorizing everything perfectly in one night.
The goal of your first class is to enjoy the experience and get a feel for the dance.
Focus on listening to the music and moving your body.
The learning process is gradual, and consistency helps you improve.
Future classes build on the foundational steps taught on your first night.
Understanding the 4-Week Session
Group classes at Dennis PaSamba Dance Company are structured as 4-week sessions.
Your first Bachata class is the start of one of these sessions.
This format allows for progressive learning.
Each week builds upon the skills learned in previous weeks.
By the end of the four weeks, you will have a solid understanding of fundamental Bachata steps and combinations.

This covers all four classes in the series.
If you miss a week, you can make it up.
Make-up classes can be arranged with the front desk.
Please note that there are no refunds for missed classes or sessions.
The 4-week session is designed to give you a complete introductory experience.
It prepares you for more intermediate levels if you choose to continue.

Questions people ask
What if I'm nervous?
Almost everyone is. The first ten minutes are just the step, no partner yet.
Do I need to wear dance shoes for my first class?
While smooth-soled shoes are helpful, any comfortable shoe that allows you to pivot easily without sticking to the floor will work for your first class. We recommend avoiding rubber-soled athletic shoes.
What kind of music is played in Bachata class?
We play a variety of traditional and modern Bachata music. You'll learn to identify the characteristic rhythm and feel of Bachata, which is crucial for the dance.
