No partner needed — we rotate partners all class long. Missed a class? You have 4 weeks from your start date to make it up at no extra cost.

Bachata is the fastest way into Latin dancing. The music is slower than salsa, the basic step is a simple side-to-side with a tap, and within one class most people are already dancing with a partner. That's why our bachata classes in Chicago fill first — and why we run them three days a week.

Level 1 covers traditional bachata: timing, the basic, partner frame, and the turns you'll actually use on a social floor. We add the sensual bachata layer — body waves, isolation, and connection — gradually, so it feels natural instead of performative. Level 2 moves into longer combinations, musicality and the styling that makes people watch you dance.

Each course is four progressive weeks with the same group, and every course includes free make-ups within four weeks of your start date. There's no long contract and no partner requirement — we rotate partners all class long.

Dennis has been teaching Latin dance in Chicago since 1992, and the studio on Irving Park Road pulls students from Portage Park, Old Irving, Avondale, Logan Square, Jefferson Park and the wider northwest side.

Common questions

Do I need a partner for bachata classes?

No partner needed. We rotate partners every class so you learn to lead or follow with anyone, which is exactly what you'll need at a social.

Do you teach traditional or sensual bachata?

Both. Level 1 builds the traditional bachata basic and timing, then layers in the body movement and sensual elements so any bachata song feels danceable.

How much are bachata lessons in Chicago?

$95 for the complete 4-week progressive course. Private bachata lessons start at $125 for 55 minutes, priced the same for one person or a couple.

When do bachata classes run?

Bachata Level 1 and Level 2 run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Saturday has Bachata Level 2 at 12:00 pm and Level 1 at 2:00 pm.

Is bachata easier to learn than salsa?

Most beginners find bachata faster to pick up — the basic is a simple side-to-side with a tap, and the music is slower. Many students start with bachata and add salsa a month later.

Where can I dance bachata in Chicago after class?

Our own Friday socials on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month run salsa, bachata and cumbia from 7 to 11 pm at 4820 W. Irving Park Rd, and they're the friendliest floor in the city for new dancers.
