One of the biggest questions beginners ask is: "Do I need a partner to take dance classes?"

The answer is no.

At Dennis PaSamba Dance Company in Chicago, you do not need a partner for group classes. We rotate partners during class so everyone gets to practice with different people. That rotation is exactly what helps you improve faster and feel comfortable on any dance floor.

Why Rotating Partners Is Better

  • You learn to adapt to different people
  • You build confidence faster
  • You meet new friends
  • You get better at leading or following

Many of our students come alone and leave with new dance friends. Our Friday Socials are also partner-optional — everyone is welcome.

What a First Class Actually Looks Like

Every group class is 55 minutes. You'll start with the basic step, add timing, then practice with a few different partners before the recap at the end. Nobody is watching you — everyone in the room is learning the same thing.

Whether you want to learn Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, or Kizomba, you can start by yourself. Prefer one-on-one attention first? A private lesson is a great warm-up before joining a group.
