Do You Need a Partner to Take Salsa On2 Group Classes?
You do not need to bring a partner to attend our Salsa On2 classes in Chicago. In every group class, all students rotate constantly throughout the lesson. Leads and follows switch partners every few minutes so everyone gets equal practice time. This system ensures that no one is left standing alone on the sidelines. Rotating partners helps you build confidence quickly because you practice lead and follow concepts with many different dancers during class.
Salsa On2 relies heavily on precise timing, musicality, and clear connection. Dancing with different partners helps you develop a strong sense of lead and follow mechanics. If you only dance with one person, you might pick up bad habits or rely on mutual guessing. Rotating partners forces you to execute your footwork and turn patterns clearly. By the end of class, you will feel comfortable dancing On2 with anyone on the social floor.
If you do happen to come with a friend or a partner, you are still encouraged to rotate with the rest of the group. Rotating allows both of you to learn faster and avoid frustration. However, if you prefer to stay together, you can discuss that with the instructor. Most students find that participating in the full rotation makes the learning process much easier and far more social for everyone involved in class.
Attending a Salsa On2 class without a partner is a fantastic way to meet new people in the local community. Everyone in the room is there to learn, make mistakes, and have fun together. The continuous partner switching creates a warm, friendly atmosphere where it is easy to make friends. You will quickly realize that most of your classmates arrived by themselves just like you did on their very first day.
When you arrive for your first lesson, our instructors will guide the group into lines or a circle. We break down the fundamental On2 footwork first so everyone understands the basic step and timing. After practicing the footwork solo, we pair up the leads and follows to work on partner work patterns. We then rotate continuously throughout the remainder of the session so you get to practice with every dancer.
