What to Expect at Your First Bachazouk Class

Walking into your first Bachazouk class is an exciting step toward mastering a beautiful fusion dance. At Dennis PaSamba Dance Company, we welcome dancers of all experience levels into a supportive community. Here is everything you need to know about what happens during your initial session.

What Will You Experience During Your First Bachazouk Class?

When you arrive at Dennis PaSamba Dance Company at 4820 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago, you will find a welcoming atmosphere right in the Six Corners area of Irving Park. Parking is free and easy to find, so you can walk into the studio relaxed and ready to learn. Our team greets you at the door and helps you get settled before class begins. You will immediately feel the friendly vibe that makes learning new dance styles comfortable for everyone.

Class starts with a gentle warm-up designed to wake up your muscles and isolate your movements. Bachazouk combines the playful rhythm of Bachata with the fluid body movement of Brazilian Zouk. During the warm-up, your instructor guides you through torso isolations, gentle neck rolls, and hip movements. This helps you build the flexibility and body awareness needed for the unique flow of Bachazouk without putting any stress or strain on your joints.

Next, the instructor breaks down the fundamental footwork and core timing of Bachazouk. You learn how to shift your weight smoothly while maintaining a steady rhythm. Even if you have never danced Bachata or Zouk before, the step-by-step breakdown makes the basic patterns easy to catch onto. Everyone practices the footwork individually first to build confidence before moving into paired social dancing exercises.

After mastering basic footwork solo, the class transitions into partner work concepts. You do not need to bring a partner to attend our classes, as we rotate partners frequently throughout the lesson. Rotating helps you adapt to different connections and speeds up your learning process. You will practice gentle frame work, leading and following basics, and clear communication techniques that keep dancing fun, comfortable, and respectful for both partners.

As the lesson progresses, you will explore the signature fluid movements that make Bachazouk so captivating. Your instructor introduces basic upper body undulations and safe head movement entry points. Safety and proper technique are always our top priorities in every class. You learn how to execute smooth waves and gentle dips using core support, ensuring that every movement feels comfortable and controlled for both leads and follows.

The final portion of class focuses on putting your new steps together to music. You will practice connecting basic combinations while listening to smooth Bachazouk tracks. This music time helps you feel the rhythm and build natural dance flow. Your instructor walks around the room offering individual pointers, encouragement, and helpful corrections. By the end of class, you will be dancing full mini-routines with different partners.

Getting ready for your first class is simple and stress-free. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, along with smooth-soled shoes or socks. We are located conveniently in Six Corners with free parking available for all students. If you have questions about scheduling or want to join our next session, text or call 717-PaSamba today. We look forward to guiding you on your Bachazouk dance journey in Chicago!
