The basic Cumbia steps are easy to learn. Dancers focus on a shuffling, rhythmic walk. This step moves forward, back, or in a circular motion. We often dance Cumbia with a partner. Partners hold each other in a close embrace or in an open position. The dance has a playful, flirtatious feel.

Cumbia music is typically upbeat and danceable. It features instruments like accordions, guitars, percussion, and bass. The rhythms are infectious and encourage movement. Our classes play a variety of Cumbia styles. This helps you get a feel for the different sounds.

Your Cumbia Class Experience

Our Thursday Cumbia Level 1 class is designed for adult beginners. No prior dance experience is necessary. We start with the fundamental steps and rhythms. You will learn how to connect with the music. Our instructors break down each movement clearly. We create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for everyone.

The class is a 4-week session. This structured approach helps you build skills steadily. Each week, we review previous material. Then we add new steps and combinations. You will practice leading and following techniques. This helps you become a versatile dancer. We also teach musicality. This means you will learn to hear and feel the Cumbia rhythm.

You do not need a partner to join. We rotate partners frequently in class. This gives you practice dancing with different people. It also helps you meet new friends. Many students attend on their own. Our studio is a friendly place to learn and socialize.

Class Details and Policies

Our Cumbia sessions are $95 for four classes. This covers the full 4-week program. We focus on building a strong foundation. You will gain comfort and skill with Cumbia dancing. The classes are for adults only. Our environment is welcoming to all ages.

We understand that life happens. If you miss a week, you can make up the class. You can attend a different Cumbia session. Please check with us for make-up options. We want you to complete your session. Note that we do not offer refunds for missed classes. Your commitment helps us maintain class quality.

After your 4-week session, you can continue to Level 2. Or you can repeat Level 1 to solidify your skills. We offer progressive learning paths. We also have Friday Socials for practice. These are not a substitute for class. But they are a fun way to use what you learn. The Friday Social costs $15 to attend. It is a great way to practice in a relaxed setting.
