At Dennis PaSamba Dance Company, we rotate partners throughout every group Cumbia class. This means you will get to dance with many different people during the lesson. Rotating partners helps everyone learn the steps much faster. It also builds your confidence on the dance floor. You never have to worry about standing alone without a dance partner during class time. Everyone gets equal practice time with the basic steps and turns.
Coming to group Cumbia class without a partner is a wonderful way to meet new friends in Chicago. Our studio atmosphere is warm, social, and welcoming to everyone. You will meet people from Six Corners, Irving Park, and all across the city. Many of our regular dancers started out by coming to their very first class alone. You will quickly feel comfortable as soon as the music starts and the group begins to move together.
Dancing with different partners actually makes you a better Cumbia dancer over time. Each person has a slightly different style of leading or following. When you rotate, you learn how to guide or respond to different people smoothly. If you only practice with one partner, you might get used to their specific habits. Switching partners ensures you learn clear body language, strong rhythm, and proper lead-and-follow techniques for social dancing.
If you do decide to bring a spouse, date, or friend, that is wonderful too. You can choose to rotate with the rest of the group or stay together if you prefer. However, we always encourage couples to try rotating at least a little bit. It helps relieve pressure and makes the learning process much lighter and more fun. Either way, you will have a fantastic time learning Cumbia steps together in a group environment.
Our group Cumbia classes are priced at $95 for 4 weeks. This gives you a complete, structured series to learn the foundational steps, timing, and turn patterns. You do not need any prior dance experience to join our beginner classes. We start from the absolute basics so everyone can follow along easily. You just need comfortable shoes and a desire to learn a fun, high-energy social dance in a friendly studio.

We rotate partners continuously so everyone gets ample time to practice. If the numbers are slightly uneven, students take brief turns rotating into the circle. Everyone gets plenty of dancing time during every lesson.
