Style guide

Bachata First Dance

Bachata is the easiest Latin style to put on a slow love song. The step is small, the hold is close, and you can keep doing it for a whole song without running out of breath or tripping over a hem.

The three moves you need

A full bachata first dance can be built from three pieces repeated with feeling.

  • Basic: four counts in place, a small hip on the fourth.
  • Side step: the same rhythm traveling left and right across the floor.
  • One turn: placed where the song lifts, then straight back into the hold.

Why it works in a dress

The feet stay under the body and close to the floor, so a long skirt or a train never gets stepped on. There are no kicks and no wide steps. Heels are fine once you have practiced in them once or twice.

Try it free first

The free Wedding Crash Course starts with the bachata basic for exactly this reason. Come as a couple, learn it in an hour, then decide whether to book private lessons to set it to your song.
