Cumbia class practicing the basic step

What a session covers

Cumbia Lessons in Chicago

A cumbia session is four classes, one a week, and each one builds on the last. By week four you can dance a full song with a partner.

The three skills

Every session works on the same core.

  • The basic step
  • Timing: hearing the beat and staying on it
  • Turns for both the lead and the follow

Week by week

Week one is the basic and the beat. Week two adds the first turn. Week three links turns into short patterns, and week four puts it all to a song at social speed.
