How to Do a Wedding Dip

One practiced dip is the moment guests photograph. One improvised dip is the moment someone ends up on the floor. Learn it before the wedding, not at the reception.

Who supports

The supporting partner keeps a wide, bent-knee stance and holds the upper back, not the neck. The partner being dipped keeps their core firm and leans back into the support. Strength matters less than balance.

Dress and suit

A fitted jacket limits how far the arm reaches, so test the dip in the suit or a similar jacket. A full skirt hides the feet, so the supporter needs a clear step. Practice in the real shoes at least once.

Do not invent it at the reception

Adrenaline and a slick floor make a new dip risky. Pick one dip, practice it low, and only go deeper once it feels steady every time.

Questions people ask

Can a shorter partner support the dip?

Yes. We choose the version that fits your heights and balance.
