What Shoes to Wear to Wedding Dance Lessons

Your shoes change your balance, your turn and your dip. The safest plan is simple: practice in the pair you will dance in at the reception.

Bring the reception shoes

Start the first lesson in comfortable shoes while you learn the steps. From the second lesson on, bring the shoes you will wear that night, so your feet learn the real heel height and sole.

No new heels on the day

Brand-new soles are slippery and new heels pinch after an hour of photos. Wear them around the house a few times and rough up the soles lightly if they slide.

  • Heel height you can turn in
  • A strap or snug fit so the shoe stays on
  • Soles that slide a little, not stick

Questions people ask

Can we switch to flats for the dance?

Yes. If you plan to change shoes, practice in the flats you will change into.
