First turns

Cumbia Turns for Beginners

Your first turn comes once the basic feels automatic, usually in week two.

Right turn first

The lead raises a hand and guides the follow to turn to the right while keeping the basic rhythm. It happens in place, slowly.

Then a left

Once the right turn is smooth, you learn the mirror version to the left.

When to add it

Add a turn only when you can do the basic without thinking about your feet. If the turn breaks your timing, go back to the basic for a few bars.

Questions people ask
