The five steps
Each lesson builds on the last.
- Arrive: free parking, comfortable shoes the first time
- Pick roles: decide who leads by trying both
- Learn the song: entrance, middle and finish across your lessons
- Practice between lessons: about 10 minutes at home
- One reception run: a full run-through in your wedding shoes
What you take home
After each lesson you know exactly what to practice. Many couples film the last run so they can follow along at home.
Your First Step: Planning Your Dance
Your wedding dance journey begins with a conversation. We will talk about your vision for the first dance. Do you have a special song in mind? What style of dance do you imagine? We can work with any song choice, from slow ballads to upbeat tunes. Our goal is to make your first dance feel natural and enjoyable. We will discuss your comfort level and any specific requests. This initial chat helps us tailor the lessons to you as a couple.
Choosing your song is a key part of planning. If you haven't picked one yet, we can help with suggestions. Think about songs that are meaningful to you both. Consider the tempo and mood; these will influence the dance's style. We can also help you edit a song if you want a custom length. Your dance should reflect your unique relationship and personality. We are here to guide you through every choice, big or small.
We welcome all couples, regardless of prior dance experience. Some come with two left feet, others have a background in dance. Our private lessons mean you get personalized attention. This allows us to move at your pace. You will never feel rushed or left behind. We focus on making the learning process fun and stress-free. The aim is to build your confidence for your big day.
Learning Your Routine, Step by Step
Each lesson is a private session for you both. We start by teaching basic steps and movements. We then weave these into a simple, elegant routine tailored to your song. You will learn how to enter the dance floor gracefully. We cover how to hold each other comfortably and confidently. The focus is on natural movement and connection, not complicated choreography. We want your dance to look effortless and heartfelt.
We build your routine progressively across your lessons. In the first lesson, you might learn the entrance and a basic step. Subsequent lessons add turns, dips, or lifts, if you wish. We ensure that each new element feels comfortable before moving on. We break down each step into easy-to-follow instructions. You will practice segments of the dance until they feel smooth. We encourage filming the end of each lesson to help with home practice.
Practice between lessons is very important for success. Just 10 minutes a day can make a big difference. This helps solidify what you learned and builds muscle memory. The more you practice, the more natural the dance will feel. By your last lesson, you will be performing your full routine. This final run-through is often done in your wedding shoes. It helps you feel prepared for the actual reception.
Beyond the First Dance: Parent Dances
Many couples choose to include a parent dance in their celebration. This is a special moment for a groom and his mother or a bride and her father. Our 6-lesson package includes time for one of these important dances. We can choreograph a simple, meaningful dance for this occasion. These lessons are also private and focused on the parent and child. We ensure everyone feels comfortable and confident on the dance floor.
Similar to the first dance, we work with any song choice for parent dances. We teach basic steps that create an elegant and memorable moment. The goal is to make the parent dance heartfelt and enjoyable. This extra dance adds another touching memory to your wedding day. It's a beautiful way to honor your parents and share the joy of the celebration.
