Dennis PaSamba Dance Company
Couple taking their first hold to start a wedding dance

The first 30 seconds

Wedding First Dance Entrance

The first moments set the tone. A planned entrance means you never stand in the middle of the floor wondering when to start.

The walk-in

Decide where you start: holding hands at the edge of the floor, or already together in the center. Walk in on the beat, not in a rush, and stop facing each other.

The first 8 counts

Use the first 8 counts of music to take your hold and settle. A slow sway or a single basic is enough. The real steps start on the next phrase.

Where to stand

Stand where most guests and the photographer can see your faces, usually slightly off center toward the head table. Ask your venue for the floor size so we can rehearse the space.

Questions people ask

Should the DJ announce us first?

Yes. Agree on the cue line so you know exactly when the music starts.
