DJ lights over a wedding dance floor

What to Tell Your DJ About the First Dance

Your DJ controls the moment you practiced for. Give them four details in writing a week before the wedding.

The four details

Send these in one message.

  • Start point: from the top, or a specific second in the song
  • Length: full song or your edit, and how it ends
  • Dip cue: the moment of the dip, so music and lights hold there
  • Lights: dimmed, spotlight, or normal

Agree on the introduction

Ask how the DJ will announce you and wait for that line before you walk in. A clear cue removes the awkward pause at the start.

Questions people ask

Should guests join after the dance?

Tell the DJ if you want them invited at the end of your edit.
